Education! BOYA!!

OK, so the basic idea for this new project I'm working on is to Educate the Masses. One of the ways I intend to do this is to get a blog and then post essays on it. But, since at the moment I have no blog, I'm going to post them here. I've already posted one on St. Columkill, (but that was actually a school paper, not intened to be posted on the web). The one I'm posting this time is on (my favorite subject-- you guessed it!) Influenza.

What You Never Knew about the FluCollapse )

And, because it's the way I am, here are a few ideas for other essays. Tell me which ones you'd like me to do, or size the day and do one as well! :D

To make up for that long dry spell there, here are some more articles on one of my favorite topics, Influenza.

Vaccines (I didn't know that about heart attacks and the flu vaccine!)

"A virus acts like something out of a zombie horror movie" (OK, here's one thing I never understood: a virus is not considered 'alive' because it cannot reproduce. A brain cell is considered 'alive' but it, too, cannot reproduce, ergo should not be 'alive.' What's the difference?)

A tidbit that I found about where the Black Death came from

Here's a story that I thought was pretty neat. I think it's even kind of funny, because it's a true story, yet could quite easily have started out "Once upon a time, and very long ago, there was a beautiful princess. She was married to the most handsomest prince in the world. . ."

True Fairy TaleCollapse )

I'd just like to remind you all that you're allowed to post stuff here, too. Any member can update. I'm sorry that I can't update more often, but you all can update as often as you like! Please don't be shy. Give us something to talk about!

China the Beautiful

I found this one day while poking around on the internet. I've always thought that China was so cool, and I managed to dig up a site called China the Beautiful.

It's got stuff on the Chinese Opera, Writing Styles (which I think are totally awesome) a very cool Picture of the Month, and some Chinese/English Proverbs. Not to mention an Alphabet, which I find funny. (Not that I think the alphabet itself is funny, I just think it's funny that it's called A is for Love.) That isn't even the whole site! Try picking a favorite story. It's hard. Mine would either be the Unicorn-Trapping Purse or The Story of the White Snake.

Just to start us off, here's something I found that I think is interesting and funny:

Acarophobia- Fear of itching or of the insects that cause itching.

Acousticophobia- Fear of noise

Aerophobia- Fear of drafts, air swallowing, or airbourne noxious substances.
Aeroacrophobia- Fear of open high places.
Aeronausiphobia- Fear of vomiting secondary to airsickness.

Agateophobia- Fear of insanity (If anyone has this, I'd sugest you leave. I am going to use all my powers to make this one of the scariest places on earth to you)

Cholerophobia- Fear of anger or the fear of cholera.
Chorophobia- Fear of dancing.
Chrometophobia or Chrematophobia- Fear of money.
Chromophobia or Chromatophobia- Fear of colors.
Chronophobia- Fear of time.
Chronomentrophobia- Fear of clocks.

Good heavens!! And the list goes on. To view the whole thing, go here. I think I've got Phobiaphobias. Help.
